Wrapping up the mechanicals

Most of the the mechanicals have been finished.  We have brakes, clutch, a good portion of the cooling system is complete, and the suspension is done.  We put the wheels on and got it off the lift.  One final block sanding and it is goign to be ready to paint.

Emergency Brake

This is an emergency brake handle from a '91 Corvette.  We moved it from the center over to the driver's side.  When it is engaged, you can still lower the handle so it will not be in the way when you get in and out.

Engine is installed

The engine has been installed in the car.  Here are my comments about the things that were done in the engine bay.  The engine bay was "painted" with a a truck bed liner spray.  I wanted something that would be tough, would look nice, and would assist in deadening sound.  I plan on driving this car and I do not want to spend all my time cleaning the engine bay everytime I take the car out.  If you also notice nothing is polished. The engine and transaxle look very plain, but that is fine with me. We zinc coated much of the hardware.  This should be low maintenance and I think it looks nice.

More Suspension

The suspension has been installed and the brake lines hooked up. Here are the highlights.

  1. Hats and hubs are milled out of aluminum.  The rotors can be replaced without taking the entire suspension apart.
  2. Brembo Brakes.
  3. Baer rotors.
  4. Floating rotors.
  5. 4" extended suspension.
  6. Koni shocks.
  7. Hypercoil springs.
  8. Powder coated arms. The arms are not aluminum but steel.
  9. Pat Mical's adjustable suspension modification.
  10. Custom sway bars.
  11. Stainless steel braided brake lines.
  12. Zinc plated hardware.

I think that is high level overview of what was done.  I do not think I missed anything, but if I did please let me know.

Shiny Suspension!

The suspension came back from being powder coated.  The cool thing is it looks like it is aluminum, however it is lighter than aluminum, and ultimately will not get fatigued like aluminum.  It looks awesome!  I cannot wait to see it on the car.

The gas tank was ceramic coated as well.  We figured as long as it is out we may as well get it squared away too.

Cooling

I keep meaning to write up more about the engine, but I never seem to get time to.  Anyhow, it is an aluminum Fontana engine with Yates heads.  There is more to it but most people will get the idea that this is a big motor in need of cooling.  One of the things we decided to do was use aluminum and get 2" tubing.  The aluminum will help dissipate heat better and of course there will be more water in the system because of the increase in diameter. Here is a picture of the new tubing and old tubing to give everyone a good visual in the increase in size.

A Single Wiper Blade!

When Pat was working on a M1 in his shop he pointed out the one wiper blade on the car.  After looking at (and some convincing from Pat) I thought it would be something really cool for my Pantera.  Well Pat implemented it and works like a charm.  The blade parks on the passenger side.  It has 180 degress of sweep.  I think this really looks cool.

Here is what it looks like after it sweeps the windshield.

Mirrors

I love these mirrors with the extensions that they put on the SI.  I got the mirrors years ago from Roland Jaeckel. Pat picked up the mirror extensions from him this year when he went to Lemans.

Suspension

Pat finished the sway bars.  He moved them around a bit taking queues from his Pantera.  They are easily adjustable.  Here are a few pictures of the front and rear.

Even more updates

Everything is being test fitted to make sure there is enough clearance and everything "moves" as it is supposed to.  The exhaust is custom made and much bigger than stock.  Therefore we need to make sure everything clears as we need it to.  I am also having some non-stock mufflers put on and we want to make sure that those fit properly as well.

Also notice the floating rotors.  I don't think I have mentioned those before but Pat updated the existing ones.  It is a very nicely done setup.
